Promises
Planes colide with metal
translate into lost lives
miles of tears
and broken hearts
Simple promises of
love and adoraration
and see you later
were broken
with one single act
Promises were broken that day
promises of future meetings
families ripped apart
but we as America
promise
that our hearts will ache
and we will shed tears
for those who can no longer shed them
we will carry on our shoulders
the weight of this single act
for the rest of our nation’s history
we promise to honor
and love on those
who don’t have anyone
to love on them
we promise to help out those
who just can’t see past the next hour
or the next day
We promise to be a nation
bonded and inviting
and God-centered
We promise
to never forget

Nice poem, Jessica! It is good to pause and remember all those who died that day and ask God to be close to all those survivors.
