a small town
was heard by the ears of children
fear etched in their faces
tears plastered to their faces
The children
were asked to close their eyes
as they hurried out of the school
so the memories of that day
would not be part of their lives
Teachers had students in bathrooms
in classrooms
protecting them as if they were their own
The children just wanted to make it to Christmas
some were lucky enough
others will never be forgotten
The terror on parents faces
was heart wrenching
the balance between
if their child
was alive
or with the Lord
For those who have lost loved ones
I pray they take it day by day
and remember and celebrate
the life of the one who is now with the Lord
Not a day will pass that they are not remembered
For those who have their children
hug them a little tighter
tell them they are loved and cared for
It will never be okay
what that man did was evil
There are so many questions
about why one
would be so sick
to shoot innocent little children
All we can do now is pray
for all affected
those who have lost loved ones
and those who held them in their arms
the gunman's family
and the police and investigators who are now
working this case
to uncover the truth
In the wake of tragedy
God is near
He will comfort the brokenhearted
and be close to those who mourn
He will never leave or forsake us
He is the same in pain and heartache
and overwhelming grief
He is the same yesterday
today and forever
his love and comfort
never change
He will be with us always
